The recycling of wood material
How s'organizee the wood industry?
The wood collection, recycling and recovery sector has a long history. It is carried by professionals in the recovery and preparation of secondary materials who develop partnerships with industrialists in France and Europe.
PMCB wood is treated with wood from other sources: furniture wood, packaging wood, virgin wood from wood processing. The collected wood is directed to 400 waste operators' sites spread over the territory, who massify these flows before the preparation operations. Half of the tonnage is exported. The overall preparation capacity available in France on about 120 platforms is sufficient (50 to 75% filling rate).
Today, wood is consumed in 2 types of industries:
- Recycling sector: particleboard industry, which has about ten installations in France using recycled wood. The recycling capacities seem to be close to saturation, even for export.
- Valorisation sector: boiler rooms and cement plants, many projects are expected in France in the coming years, linked to the need for renewable energy.
How to Valobat intervene?
To support the development of the sector and to reach the defined recycling rates, Valobat :
- Implements a precise traceability allowing to measure the collected tonnages of wood from the building sector
- Develops long-term relationships with industrial buyers of wood from PMCB
- Helps the industry to improve the quality of recycled wood, and to better manage the constraints related to the presence of certain chemical substances
- Develops reuse solutions, in particular to better valorize the solid wood part of PMCB flows
