The sector for
waste from furniture items (DEA)
What is it?
Over the past decades, the amount of waste from furniture items has increased significantly due to changes in lifestyle and consumer habits, as well as the limited lifespan of low-cost products. The term ‘furniture items’ refers to movable goods and their components mainly used in residential, commercial or public spaces, for functions such as seating, sleeping, storage or work surfaces. Since 2022, in accordance with Article 62 of the February 2020 anti-waste and circular economy law (AGEC), furniture items include textile decorative items such as curtains (sheer or opaque), rugs and removable carpets.
In France, waste management for furniture items has existed since 2013, via an extended producer responsibility (EPR) scheme.
